The US government doesn't usually directly attack something without putting up a straw man to blame first. Examples would be WMD's to masquerade the purpose of the invasion of Iraq, the drug war, terrorists, etc. I don't see any big media push to demonize something so a war against bitcoin would then become politically palatable. Not that this won't happen in the future, but for now, it seems just too quiet for them to spring a trap on BTC holders.
