The classic counterexample is not using 'i' in for loops, vis - for(int nInnerLoopCounter; nInnerLoopCounter<nMaxInterations; nInnerLoopCounter++) ... Seriously, had this in a formal coding standard, you never want to work in those places - so make sure you go straight from university to a {lisp|ruby|python|linux|YC}startup.
