At least for Apple it seems to be a profitable hobby which is more than can be said for some PC makers. It certainly seems like there's a downtick in computer buying as a whole - perhaps because its a fairly saturated market that's now driven by upgrades rather than new users combined with it's taking longer for a computer to be really out of date.
