I'd just offer the following from lots of experience on both sides. - Make sure to write down a sample input and output. Sounds simple, but is often not done and the cause of a lot of wasted time. - After you're on the same page about the input and output, allow for a minute to think. Silence should be perfectly okay here. - Always discuss the strategy and various options before implementing the solution.
