The Note 2 isn't exactly setting the world on fire - yes, it's doing well at 5 million pre-Christmas, but it is way behind the sell rate of S3s. Thus I don't think Apple is going to be shifting form factors for phablets, the iPad Mini is basically their concession to a middle road form factor (and by most accounts is selling very well).
