Absolutely loved this post. The opening sentence is just as important as the headline and subheadings. Great copywriters (and blog editors, evidently) know this. Coming up with original, compelling opening sentences isn't always as easy as it sounds. Fantastic read.

In my limited experience, subheds often act as a crutch when the writer doesn't know how to move the piece forward onto the next point in a more natural fashion. At Uni, we were advised to avoid them wherever possible.
