"I've come across very excessive players - playing for 10 to 14 hours a day - but for a lot of these people it causes no detrimental problems if they are not employed, aren't in relationships and don't have children."
That doesn't sound like it would calm concerned parents...
- Millennium 14y agoI'd argue that excessive play causes a very serious "detrimental problem" to those who are not employed, aren't in relationships, and don't have children. Someone in that situation is already facing a serious disconnect from society, and excessive play presents a major barrier to resolving that. This might be a secondary issue in the way of some underlying problem, or it could be the main problem itself. It's a problem either way, and one that has to take priority.
- TillE 14y agoI'd say it's almost never the main problem. I would be entirely unsurprised if most cases of "videogame addiction" turn out to actually be simple depression.
