I find the most exciting innovation in software happening now is in computer vision and machine learning. To me, these counts as true innovations. Most internet technology however is just engineering with fairly obvious solutions. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's not innovations if you're just pushing what's possible on the internet, but not pushing what's possible overall.
