I listened to the Odyssey recitation on the channel you shared (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZByDOoDjIM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZByDOoDjIM) and to me it doesn't sound much like Sanskrit, but maybe that's just because I'm too familiar with Sanskrit and cannot take an outside view. (I can see how it's similar to other Sanskrit chanting videos on the same channel though.) Anyway as you said, it would make sense for the oldest Indo-European chanting traditions to have some similarities.
- epestr 13d agoYes I agree, this did have way too many instruments and sounds which wouldn't be acceptable for a Sanskrit chant. It could be expecting a Western sound and seeing something eastern made me think it felt Indian rather than other parts which tend to be even more ornamental. And I do agree, knowledge on anything is fractal and with more familiarity you'd have better understanding of how two things differ.
