There's a lot to be said for a manual approach for certain tasks. For an extreme example of partisanship on this, see the Youtube channel "Inheritance Machining"

  I would also recommend "Artisan Makes" and "Blondiehacks" if you want something less stylized & scripted. Plus their machinery is a bit more realistic for a hobbyist.

    Blondihacks is a favourite along w/ Clickspring and Pask Makes. Haven't found occasion to watch Artisan Makes yet, but it is queued up for the future.

I have a manual mill and CNC and use them in roughly equal proportion. They make plenty of sense -- especially if it's a hobby and you don't want to use another computerized thing. Manual machining is very zen.
