I am impressed by the number of artists that follow HN even outnumbering programmers. Programmers are not artists, artists see the world in colors while we see it in black and white (just look at this page). There are a few really great artist/programmers among us but they're a very rare specimen
For us programmers, something maybe be good enough to use or bad enough to discard, while for an artist there are a thousand details to inspect by just glancing at it, typography, space, color, message, alignment, etc and many more I am not knowledgeable enough to list
To all artists, I admire you in a very different way, a kind of envy for not being able to see the beauty you can see in my bored green on black terminal world
- xandrius 6d agoPutting yourself (and others) into a very defined box does good to nobody. There are many programmers who at artistic as there are great artists who are also good programmers, I found what matters (for the most part) is where one decides to put their "care stats points", do you put all your care in learning Assembly and nothing else? Well, you'll probably be good at that and not much else, if you put an even slight amount of care into design decisions (however small), thinking a bit before doing something different and you'll improve at an ever increasing rate.
