Massive lack of foresight and hubris leads to not realizing that other countries can play the game of nationalism, xenophobia, trade war, and technology sovereignty too. Thus we are seeing a kind of boomerang effect. It's smarter not to poke or disrespect customers buying from "your store", because they don't necessarily have to. Make it a big enough issue and they can choose to go elsewhere, figure out how to make it themselves, or find some other way.
