The hallmarks of an events I want to attend (you made some assumptions about me so I'll clarify) are those that INVOLVE their community, I'm personally involved in helping organize some events in my area, I've personally met people who make the fliers for those events. Having discussions while we move items around in a composition takes like 30 minutes max and I get to have a conversation with a member of my community. Outsourcing the efforts for an event to a marketing firm is the same as outsourcing the efforts to a model owned and controlled by a major company
