BeanShell3 in Development
- jimjag 14d agoAfter a long hiatus, BeanShell3 is back on schedule.
- neilellis 14d agoOMG blast from the past!
- arein3 14d agoThis was unexpected
- lucaprata 14d agoOMG!
- pelagicAustral 14d agoThis website is the most soulful thing I've seen today.
- mt_ 14d agoI finally can release my badly design projects from my graveyard, which will convience propspect users of the effort I put into it.
- jimjag 14d agoWho tinkled in your corn-flakes?
- frangonf 14d agoI will remember today with a smile in face as the day I met Beany[0]. [0] https://beanshell.github.io/beany.html https://beanshell.github.io/beany.html
- giancarlostoro 14d ago"Beany can be bad" "LGPL" I mean, LGPL isn't THAT bad, but made me chuckle.
- jimjag 14d agoThat needs to be updated... Beany is ALv2 :)
- pianoben 14d agoHell yeah, I loved beanshell! We used to use it in Android development to give our apps a debug repl, telnet-style. It was so nice, if antiquated even back then. Excited to see this worthy project continue.
- giancarlostoro 14d agoWhich projects still use BeanShell? I have not heard of BeanShell since... idk 2012? or something, who is maintaining it as well, I would hope someone didn't just fork it and Oracle owns the rights to it somehow? Was Sun fully involved with BeanShell? I don't recall some of this. Love seeing old projects come back to life though.
- dunconian 14d agoA fairly large community of people use MicroManager to run and automate microscopes, which is an extremely overgrown ImageJ plugin.
- jcranmer 14d agojEdit uses BeanShell and appears to still be alive.
- badsectoracula 14d ago> I would hope someone didn't just fork it and Oracle owns the rights to it somehow? Beh, i used to use Java all the time for a bunch of stuff (mainly desktop tools and the like) but after Oracle bought it my interest to it dropped like a rock and remained on the ground after the whole Oracle vs Google circus :-P. Nowadays i still avoid any languages primarily backed by some large corporation.
- wormius 14d ago"Beanly was created with The Gimp" I can tell. Interesting I never heard of this. That site feels straight out of 1999.
- jt2190 14d ago> Work has resumed on the long-dormant 3.0 development line (master; the JAR targets Java 8 and is tested on Java 8 through 25) after a multi-year gap. More details in the CHANGELOG: https://github.com/beanshell/beanshell/blob/main/CHANGES.md https://github.com/beanshell/beanshell/blob/main/CHANGES.md
- hashmash 14d agoI used BeanShell for a few projects years ago, but with JShell and the ability run a Java program directly from a source file, I have no reason to use BeanShell again. What does BeanShell3 offer over what's currently available?
- flossly 14d agoFor me Kotlin is an "acceptable Ruby with types" Actually better than the Ruby with types we have now...
