Destin of Smarter Every Day went down the drain in my books as soon as he published a video about Flagella, and ended it by suggesting it could be intelligent design and told viewers to read a book authored by someone who is a staunch believer of intelligent design.
Crossed the line as a science Youtuber. You don't need to be athiest to be a scientist, and he definitely isn't. But you should at least know the line.
Finding out this site is basically just a copy of something that already existed and something they knew existed just further degrades my opinion of him. Especially with it being littered with ads. The ad literally takes up half my screen.
- spiderfarmer 17d agoAs a publisher who relied on Adsense it’s so sad to see how Google is absolutely destroying the industry with every user hostile practice imaginable. It’s absolutely disgusting and pathetic. They are hooked on a type of crack that will ruin the product in the long run.
- LadyCailin 17d agoHe went down my drain a long time ago for the same reason. I also find it funny how his good ole boy down south project to make a grill scrubber has basically just re-discovered what all the predominately atheist city slickers have been trying to tell the predominantly Republican voting south, which is that unregulated free market capitalism is the problem.
- vablings 17d agoThe problem he found was not unregulated free market capitalism, rather the opposite. Suppliers and supply chains did not operate on the free market and the denigration of manufacturing in north America due to worker/talent shortage
- LadyCailin 16d agoOutsourcing to cheaper locales is the unregulated free market at work. Why would the free market pay you more when I can pay less to someone else, for equivalent enough work? Because you’re an American? The unregulated market does not care about that factor. Manufacturing doesn’t pay enough to attract workers, if it did, this wouldn’t be a problem.
- vablings 13d agoTwo-fold problem. Manufacturing pays lower -> Lower quality workers enter the workforce -> Manufacturing is justified in paying lower -> Increase in pay is relevant -> Low-quality workers arrive -> Pay is unjustified.
- illusive4080 16d agoThis is an exceedingly simplified version of a roughly hour long video in which he points out problems and gives credit to capitalism.
- ksd482 17d agoThat's a bit harsh. I don't agree with intelligent design either simply because it is based on no data or scientific theory. I also expect Destin to know better than to suggest that. But still, I wouldn't say he went down the drain. His contributions far outweigh this.

- zamadatix 17d agoIt doesn't seem they have problems with the content existing in itself or desire his arrest over it. They're just disappointed in things like billing that as science or copying someone else's free stuff for ad revenue and that lowered their view of them. Maybe that's not reasonable, maybe it is, but I dunno enough details about Galileo's prosecution to follow this comparison as a take on that - did he try to claim heliocentrism was the word of God and so some religious people said they stopped liking his works because of the false billing? Where'd the house arrest come in?
- Philip-J-Fry 17d agoThe line is don't push your religion in your science content. Not a hard line to not cross.

- yieldcrv 17d ago"The goal of this website is to spread the amazing actions, feats, and words of the men and women currently aboard the International Space Station." It is so easy for me to separate the art from the artists, study me
- hamdingers 17d agoThe goal of the website is clearly to serve ads.
- illusive4080 16d agoHe’s openly been a Christian since the beginning of his channel.
- zamadatix 16d agoMany science channels are run by Christians without these issues, that wasn't the problem.
- illusive4080 14d agoStating Christian ideals like intelligent design is definitely something I’d expect from a Christian.
- zamadatix 14d agoI'd expect that from a Christian as well, but not in the channel they bill as "I explore the world using science. That is pretty much all there is to it" in the description. It's even more than fine to have a channel which mixes both, just don't claim science is all there is going to be to it.

- ramblurr 16d agoWhat does this have to do with the linked page? Not a criticism...I just don't understand like I am missing context.
- zamadatix 16d agoIt took me a second too but "WHO IS IN SPACE? | ©2026 Smarter Every Day" is "this site" in: > Finding out this site is basically just a copy of something that already existed and something they knew existed just further degrades my opinion of him
