A 1542 papal cipher cracked with simulated annealing
- lubujackson 2mo agoLove this analysis!
- userbinator 2mo agoMentally autocorrected the title to "paypal cipher" and got enticed to click... More seriously, this looks like the context modeling that advanced compression algorithms do, but in reverse. Recovering the key does not settle the text. That said, the Claudish in this article is only slightly annoying.
- raphlinus 2mo agoI had a sense. Pangram identifies this as AI.
- userbinator 2mo agoDefinitely, although a bit less annoying to read than the usual level of Claudish, so it was either edited or the AI is improving.
- cryptonector 2mo ago> or the AI is improving. I hope not.
- esafak 2mo agoI knew it was going to be cryptography. Everybody's cracking something these days. See also: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49738551 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49738551
