"Web optimised" really means "internet transfer optimised". Eg, the benefits would also be there for native apps that are downloading images from the internet, and they're not the web.
- RunSet 14d agoIn practice "web optimized" is a soft copyright control where the image is read-only to the extent the only readily available software that can open it is a web browser.
- xigoi 13d agoAll the formats we are talking about here (JXL, AVIF and WebP) have FOSS royalty-free encoders and decoders.
