So. HN is pretty much in agreement that this is regulatory capture. And I'll add that this has the potential to create massive wealth inequalities, as those who work at major corporations or have connections are allowed to use the good AIs, while individuals are left using stunted AIs that won't tell you how to change your car battery ("just in case"). Has anyone figured out what we can do to fight back against this? Even on HN, you can see the sock puppets posting every ten minutes, scrolling human posts to the bottom. Is this it? Is AI oligarchy the future? RIP democracy?

    Just look at the Israel case it's the perfect litmus test, the majority of the population in every so called western democracy is against the genocide, while their governments materially support it. Everything is like that, these so called democracies aren't representing people they represent corporate interests.

      Well all Democracy is relative. In the US we have a representative republic or something, which doesn't put every military action to a vote, and sometimes our leaders have more information than us (I.E., are you sure it's a genocide? maybe those in leadership positions have a clearer picture than you do). But I'm talking about something much less democratic that that even. AI is going to enable those in power to break away from democratic forms of government at escape velocity, if they want to. And it seems that they do.

Realistically, the wall that separates us from it has to do with opinions like the one expressed by lyu07282 in his reply: dead end generalities with an aura of originality. If we can't find the people and the tone to converse about the problems in sufficient detail we'll never find a way out.
