- bossyTeacher 20d agoThat is why you wash your food before eating it same as you do with legumes and rice (that likely also have had pesticide on them).
- loco5niner 20d agoBut peanuts and white rice, the most common ones have already been 'peeled'
- hackernud3s 19d agoYou need to rinse rice though, a lot of people don't realize that.
- herbst 18d agoYou do that to get the starch out and get a better result don't you? That's what I rinse my rise for at least
- someguynamedq 18d agoYou don't "need" to. It just achieved a culinary effect
- hackernud3s 18d agoThe culinary effect of not serving dirty food.
- loco5niner 17d agoboth a culinary choice (do I want sticky or non-sticky rice) and rinsing off contaminants (who knows who/what urinated on it even if only microscopic amounts are left, seriously)
- sho_hn 20d agoIn South Korea (where I used to live for a while) it's quite common to wash fruit with soapy water at home before eating them.
- brnt 20d agoUnfortunately a lot leaks in. Grapeskins are particularly porous for instance. So are most of the dirty dozen iirc. Skins are healthy, but only if organic and/or clean fifteen.
- r0m4n0 19d agoSurprised this comment is so low, was searching for it. Many fruits that you commonly peel can even contain both waxes and pesticides to keep insects out. You aren’t even able to wash it effectively. Things like cantaloupes, oranges, etc are famous for harboring bad bacteria and pesticides. Does not seem worth the risk to me… I used to watch people collect dandelions and weeds in NYC parks to make into tea and consume in other ways. I’m sure there are some benefits but I’m also sure they don’t outweigh the risks from pollutants.
- herbst 18d agoMy exact thoughts reading trough this thread. Where are people even getting their bananas from if they feel comfortable eating the skin? I don't even compost them because I don't want all that toxic shit in my garden.
