Outrageous if true, though I'm inclined to blame Expedia's incompetence rather than intentional misdirection... A bit of a shame because I've found Expedia to be pretty decent for booking flights (though that's mostly by way of comparison with other sites; most flight booking sites are jaw-droppingly horrible...).

Try Hipmunk.com.... best flight search I've seen. It the refers you to the airline's page to complete the booking. No sketchy third-party to buy from. It's visualization of flights schedules is awesome!
