A elite dev is not someone who is "not doing any mistakes" (if that has a meaning in the first place) A dev is much more likely to be qualified as elite when you look at how he/she handles his/her own 'real' mistakes.

  In this case, they are probably big tech brain washed and lack a lot of experience/perspective. I remember the time when I was warned again corpos: nice in the first decade, then nasty afterwards.
