Same with the "airpod live translation" thing, they probably spent more time implementing/testing it than the feature has been used in real life
- xattt 1mo agoThe demo of the woman at the train station listening to a concert promoter in Spanish, taking a flyer, saying “thank you” in English and walking away came off as quite geocentric.
- Jtsummers 1mo ago> came off as quite geocentric Did you mean to use another word here? I mean, the vast majority of people are still on Earth so many things are geocentric and that's rarely considered a problem.
- embedding-shape 1mo ago> Did you mean to use another word here? Hazarding a guess at egocentric considering it's just two characters next to each other swapped, and happens to fit.
- xattt 1mo agoI am mortified. I was going for something along the lines of ethnocentric. Thank you :)
- Jtsummers 1mo agoStopping to listen to someone is not very egocentric. Without the headphones (in the scenario) she would have just ignored him or politely declined the flyer. So either way, wrong word.
- ValentineC 1mo agoI'd have expected some gesturing to the AirPods or to a phone, and not assuming that the flyer person would know that those magical earbuds would translate everything he said.
- dullcrisp 1mo agoThey’re making an oblique reference to Pope Urban VIII.
- Caracas288 1mo agoYeah, they're always leaving the Martians out!
- brookst 1mo agoMan I love live translation. I was traveling in the Middle East and went to see a movie and… it worked. My Spanish is mid, my Italian is barely there, my Arabic is near zero. It’s hard for me to imagine not wanting language barriers to disappear.
- testdelacc1 1mo agoThis reminds me of the last time I saw an Arabic movie. It was last week. I used subtitles.
- Ar-Curunir 1mo agoOh yeah, the real world has subtitles, right?
- brookst 1mo agoAre you saying I should have asked the theater to project subtitles?
