I agree. The demos were great. They really showed off how things you already do today are "better" on two screens. This is in contrast to the Vision Pro where the demos were of things that were neat but I can't see myself needing (watching 3D captures, watching a big virtual cinema screen).
I think this will be a hit, but the $2k is a bit much for me to even consider getting one. Obviously they'll likely drop that price over time.
- josteink 23d agoIt’s the exact same price point as the Samsung Z Fold 8, which is this phone’s exact competitor. $2k is a lot to ask, but it answers the market 100% on “I’d like a Samsung Fold 8, but as an iPhone”.
- cma 23d agoIt's a shame Samsung dropped stylus support after the 6, but I guess the 8 is a good bit lighter weight than the duo.
- p_l 23d agohonestly it's why I am not updating from Fold 5... the stylus is the part that truly differentiated it
- microtonal 23d agoDifference is that the Fold 8 started at 2000 Euro (compared to 2339 Euro including VAT for the Duo) and can now be bought here already for 1500 new. That's 800 Euro less and Samsung will mostly decrease prices further while Apple will barely.
- Danox 22d agoSamsung is dead in the water. They cannot compete with the operating system or the four other Apple ecosystems that this new phone will integrate with seamlessly. That being said this new iPhone is probably in a 5% at most niche market within the overall iPhone market.
- ternaryoperator 22d agoThe #1 vendor of phones in the world by unit sales is “dead in the water” b/c of a new $2K entrant?
- ndr42 22d agoIt's interesting that unit sales as a metric was there from the beginning of this kind of discussions (which company is more successful) - and is still in use. It had not hurt Apple to not have the most unit sold in the past while taking most of the money. I imagine that the $2000 Samsung Phone has a healthy margin and makes money insofar it's not great for them that apple enters this segment of the market. But of course you are right: Samsung is of course not dead in the water. But it's obvious that it already lost in regard to mindshare (exemplified by the number of comments here).
- wooger 18d agoOther than getting $250 per iphone duo sold, becuase they're the exclusive screen supplier?
- wooger 18d agoExcept the cameras are bad, it's not a top of the line phone despite having the highest price. Weired choice, will limit it's appeal a lot.
