- stevekemp 24d agoPaying a few hundred dollars for a watch is cheap, compared to the prices for mid/high-end mechanical watches.
- maratc 24d agoStarting price alone doesn't give you the full picture. After five years, Apple Watches are out of support, so even if they work their value goes to $0. The battery is gone by that time, new OSes don't support them, and their only destination is a landfill. Mechanical watches can last decades, and hold some resell value at any age.
- 0cf8612b2e1e 24d agoSure, but when you are buying a mechanical watch, that is a Veblen good, not focused on utility. A $6 Casio will keep better time.
- xur17 24d agoIdk, if you check the profiles of the people posting, these would be pretty expensive shills. I genuinely think it's just happy customers. And to pile on, I switched to Garmin a few years ago after a pixel watch and a galaxy watch, and it's night and day. Battery life, and it's built to actually work offline well (global maps, and all of the tracking).
- qwytw 24d agoWhat features is Garmin missing, though? It seems to have most of the stuff you get with an Apple watch and IMHO the Apple watch is objectively exceptionally ugly compared to almost all smartwatches except the more garish "sports" themed ones.
