Something I stumbled on while looking for why Odyysey recitals[0] which keep popping up recently sound "Sanskritty" The video style is quite ranty, and shows some clear frustration. What is your conclusion? What did you think earlier and what do you think now?

  What he claimed the average person thought, that it was the Ottoman influence. I had always thought the chant style was theirs but apparently only the Ionian school had the more harmonic style of music. Also got to see how these complex patterns tend to work together. Westerners liking the aesthetic of Greek as they think and the Greek government trying to change what's exported to better maintain that view. Specifically regarding the Sanskrit part, there wasn't much he talked, but would make sense why two IE languages might have similiar sounds given their similiar mythology.

    Thank you for the reply! I listened to the Odyssey recitation on the channel you shared (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZByDOoDjIM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZByDOoDjIM) and to me it doesn't sound much like Sanskrit, but maybe that's just because I'm too familiar with Sanskrit and cannot take an outside view. (I can see how it's similar to other Sanskrit chanting videos on the same channel though.) Anyway as you said, it would make sense for the oldest Indo-European chanting traditions to have some similarities.

      Yes I agree, this did have way too many instruments and sounds which wouldn't be acceptable for a Sanskrit chant. It could be expecting a Western sound and seeing something eastern made me think it felt Indian rather than other parts which tend to be even more ornamental. And I do agree, knowledge on anything is fractal and with more familiarity you'd have better understanding of how two things differ.
