yes they can what the hell are you talking about? i would wager "being hurt by words" is something close to a universal human experience

  What the hell are YOU talking about? Of course words can't actually hurt you. Being bothered <> hurt. You can hurt yourself perhaps in response to words but words can't do it, you have to apply the meaning and the hurt internally, as opposed to say rockets, which can hurt you without any involvement on your part at all.
