A British Comedian called Jimmy Carr made the point that up to and including WW2 the Stasi in Germany was massive, it was a huge undertaking involving a massive percentage of the population just to monitor everyone and such a large organisation is going to have a lot of problems. That level of monitoring with todays cameras and software takes a tiny fraction of what it used to and can in many ways be more effective and its getting more effective with every advance in mass data processing and cheaper sensors.
- Insanity 20d agoWhere did he make that point? I’m seeing him live for the second time next month. Huge fan, he’s one of my favourite comedians. (Although his “autobiography” is not something I’d recommend, it’s essentially a self help book instead of biography).

- LargoLasskhyfv 19d agoComedian indeed. There was no 'STASI' up to and including WW2. They got established in 1950, in what then became East Germany, or 'German Democratic Republic'(GDR). Which lasted until 1990. Allegedly. The Stasi I mean.
