This article recommending scrabble letter brands seems sketchy.
Anker offers lovely soft silicone sheathed USB-C cables, in black or white and many lengths. They perform for data and do not get stiff or discolor. Our office specifies these unless TB4+ is required.
- idiotsecant 26d agoHow do you purchase them? Supply chain mixing is rough with a lot of retailers.
- LoganDark 24d agoYou purchase the ones labeled Anker?... They say Anker on the box and the cable... I don't think the supply chain is an issue as long as you get the intended product
- Someone 24d agoIf it were that simple, these pages wouldn’t exist: https://www.anker.com/eu-en/verify https://www.anker.com/eu-en/verify https://cairovolt.com/en/blog/how-to-identify-original-anker https://cairovolt.com/en/blog/how-to-identify-original-anker
- embedding-shape 24d ago> https://www.anker.com/eu-en/verify https://www.anker.com/eu-en/verify I love how the path includes eu-en but then the list of countries where this is actually used: > Europe: Turkey, Albania, Bulgaria, Belarus, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Serbia, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Azerbaijan Looks like list almost half not in the EU and half in, but missing quite a lot of EU countries. Anker themselves say they "promise that all the products purchased through our Authorized Retailers or Distributors and Online Channels are genuine" but the link to who those are is gone apparently.
- LoganDark 24d agoIf you purchase from the official seller on Amazon, you're highly unlikely to get a counterfeit unless someone committed return fraud. I think platforms that destroy returns aren't susceptible though.
- SirMaster 24d agoWhat is the model or part number for an Anker silicone cable that is faster than USB 2.0?
- Terretta 24d agoFor data transfer performance and reliability in a cable with a white smooth sheath, we go with Cable Matters: https://www.cablematters.com/pc-1640-180-intel-certified-80gbps-thunderbolt-5-cable-with-up-to-120gbps-bandwidth-boost-and-240w-charging.aspx https://www.cablematters.com/pc-1640-180-intel-certified-80g... aka: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Thunderbolt-Black-3-3ft/dp/B0CP8JDXL2/ https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Thunderbolt-Black-3-3ft... That said, we mostly use Apple TB5 for fixed work stations where cables don't get lost. https://www.apple.com/shop/product/mdw94am/a/thunderbolt-5-usb%E2%80%91c-pro-cable-1-m https://www.apple.com/shop/product/mdw94am/a/thunderbolt-5-u... We avoid gaming brand TB cables and the scrabble letter brands.
- darksim905 23d agosweet list/yay! What do people mean by scrabble letter brands? and I assume TB on the bottom there is just short for Thunderbolt?
- nomel 24d ago> This article recommending scrabble letter brands seems sketchy. Amazon orders are banned from our lab supply list because you never actually get the same thing twice, and they vanish on first bad review. Related, I've been buying the exact color, style, and brand of sock, from Amazon, for the past ~10 years. I have a sock drawer full of completely different socks.
- ButlerianJihad 24d agoIf you don't know how to use a marketplace like Amazon, then by all means stay away. I've had people in real life start to recommend some product, "oh you just buy it on Amazon" and that is a thought-terminating cliché, because that's like telling me to "go buy it in the shopping mall". Anker has an official store on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/stores/page/47CF0F10-7C80-4CCA-A398-A792A767039D?ingress=0&visitId=11c0b4e6-c265-4240-8daf-047ade5fd790&store_ref=org_bbb_bsp_bi-shop-by-category https://www.amazon.com/stores/page/47CF0F10-7C80-4CCA-A398-A... I personally love Belkin, also with an official store: https://www.amazon.com/stores/page/C59F9C55-1122-462C-863E-DBA2ADE4A626?ingress=0&visitId=870ca3f2-0575-40bc-819c-dec1baa7c442&store_ref=SBV_A011783257BVRY81CZLR-A06576161VI33LWBWHVD2&ref_=sbx_be_s_sparkle_ssd_cta https://www.amazon.com/stores/page/C59F9C55-1122-462C-863E-D... My Ethernet cables are Tripp Lite, so try their USB: https://www.amazon.com/stores/page/D85D7CDC-7E0F-4C9A-8829-200189DA7ABE?ingress=2&lp_context_asin=B072MPSYY4&lp_context_query=tripp%20lite&visitId=171e16d6-6f84-4ec8-8c51-25c4566b7650&store_ref=bl_ast_dp_brandlogo_sto&ref_=ast_bln https://www.amazon.com/stores/page/D85D7CDC-7E0F-4C9A-8829-2... So many reputable vendors have established presence in the marketplace on Amazon now. But you must carefully inspect every item in your cart, because you will find lots of brand-items advertised from fly-by-night sellers with poor reputations. But once you see your reputable vendor name, and/or "Sold through Amazon, fulfilled by Amazon" then I've never needed to worry about the end result.
- nomel 24d agoNo, this doesn't work either, by the way Amazon operates [1], and they're aware of the problem [2]. There's no "Anker" store. There's boxes in your local Amazon warehouse that "Anker" labelled stuff gets thrown into and sold as Anker products (although I think they've separated the boxes a bit in the last few years). I've had several counterfeits from official stores, and avoid Amazon for easily counterfeit goods. I had a counterfeit controller from the official Sony store that I took it apart, posted all the silly nonsense contained inside, and was banned from ever posting reviews on Amazon again. Anker has steps to prove the product is genuine and only guarantee non-counterfeit from offline stores: https://www.anker.com/eu-en/verify https://www.anker.com/eu-en/verify [1] https://www.kuow.org/podcast/newsroom/2019-12-02/sellers-fight-back-against-amazon-counterfeits https://www.kuow.org/podcast/newsroom/2019-12-02/sellers-fig... > When Amazon lists a product, that listing consolidates reviews for many different suppliers of that product. Some of them might be official Felco dealers, others may be arbitrage buyers who've picked up pruners from overseas suppliers at a discount.
