Ask HN: Are Devtools Dead?
Seeing this take everywhere lately: coding agents will eat the entire devtool category. Why pay for a linter, a migration tool, a monitoring integration, a testing product, when the agent just... does it?
Are devtools dead, or is it specifically human-workflow devtools that are dead while agent-infrastructure becomes a big category? Will this last or will LLMs getting better eradicate the whole field as demand gets lower and lower?
I want to know what have you stopped paying for since adopting agents, and what have you started paying for?
- verdverm 29d agoSounds like something a shovel salesman would say. It doesn't make sense to trade deterministic, efficient code for unreliable agents. The agents will use the same tools we do and will be more effective that way. I've started paying for search because Google's results and overviews are utter trash
