Yes, no (built-in) AI is now a feature – LibreOffice blog
- marjipan200 28d agoReminds me of Obsidian's stance on AI - leave it to the plugins. I think other apps can learn from what they are doing with plugin safety transparency in their new Community site - no silver bullets but Obsidian is certainly making it easier for people to make informed decisions on user-built software. Hard to argue with the "no-AI by default, opt-in consciously and frictionlessly, pay your own bill, and we aren't responsible for your data privacy" model, especially for apps managed by small teams
- m-p-3 28d agoInstead of having AI inside LibreOffice, AI has LibreOffice inside https://simonwillison.net/2026/Sep/1/#:~:text=and%20the%20LibreOffice%20open%20source%20office%20suite https://simonwillison.net/2026/Sep/1/#:~:text=and%20the%20Li...
- kavaruka 28d agoI don’t understand this stance. On the technical side, we currently have all the standard protocols and maturity to build an integration that meets the listed requirements.
- mksaunders2 28d agoGreat, then do it with extensions. LibreOffice is not blocking anyone from using AI in the software. But it's not being included in the core download package.
- unrented7977 28d agoI was in a Meet call today. There were no fewer than FIVE Gemini buttons on screen. No fucking thank you, i'd like my software to not do that. If you want it, add a plugin yourself instead of forcing it on everyone.
- Dev-Scar 28d agoI actually like this approach. Not every app needs AI built into it. I would rather have a solid tool and choose myself when I want to use an external AI service.
