Everything happening in America is a choice. Policy is a choice. Whatever you believe or values you have, what your congressmen, senators and president do, is a choice. Most things that benefit normal people are not "too hard". This country has a policy constructed to benefit 10,000 people at the expense of 330m. I am not a pessimist, but man, it is shocking. There is only like 1 out of 500 people in power that genuinely values democracy, this country or the people. I am sure it will be somewhat great for the people at the top, but I am curious what happens when say 100 million people can't meaningfully live in American society.

- r0tt3nmeet 1mo agoWe had no say in our origins as a species or individually I am hard pressed to understand why you think we have a say over the future at all if we had none to begin with I am an engineer with 30 years experience in EE, software, farming even longer, have rebuilt cars. Currently involved in a legal case with an opposition lawyer who is dumb af. Even the judge has shaken her head in disbelief at their ignorance of anything but the letter of the law. And this lawyer has the ability to screw peoples lives over. Now consider most people are dumber than that. Hard pressed to see where progress is going to come from Depends on the 100 million; Boomers and GenX roughly make up that number and the Boomer half is already half dead. Millennials on down make up the rest of the 300 million. It won't be a clean break along generational lines due to generational family bonds but Musk and Thiel, most of the other well known CEOs are among the older 100 million. And they do not have the allegiance of most of the other 200 million who will just cement them in their bunker if they make it

Elected leaders gleefully ignore their electorate and get repeatedly re-elected. You can write letters to them, and they just write back “lol no”. The citizenry have very little ability to direct or reclaim the power that they are legally forced to delegate.
- wand3r 24d agoYea, that was the point I was making. Congress chooses to fuck over their own constituents intentionally. They sometimes pretend it is "hard" because of "the system" but in reality both parties are aligned against you. Trump has basically done whatever he wants while in office. It is possible to fix things but almost all politicians CHOOSE not to.
