In general, I think religions require a few outlandish, unbelievable stories. Kind of like a shibboleth. Anybody can believe stories backed up by evidence and reason. But it takes a special kind of devotion to our group/tribe/congregation/whatever to believe these ridiculous absurdities. That's how we know you're one of us.
