Did you know Conde’ Nast bought Reddit twenty years ago?
And as a publicly traded company since 2024, it is driven by Wall Street expectations?
- bbor 1mo agoWoah, YC divested completely?! Thank you for the correction, I associate them so closely in this Sam Altman world in which we live in that I completely forgot. If they're still invested its through intermediaries -- Tencent and Blackrock both hold bigger portions.
- brudgers 1mo agoBasically the sale happened before “anyone” had heard of Reddit (or YC or HN). And before Reddit had achieved significant value (as a startup). I believe Condé Nast bought the whole thing because I have never seen anything to suggest otherwise. And because it is about the only thing that would have made business sense. But I could be wrong. —- I believe Reddit was sold before Altman batched.
