It really seems like the Ruby community does this to people who do great things. Another good example of this is Zed Shaw/Mongrel. However, I'd have to say, being a loyal user of capistrano, I am not sure that I could have brought anything meaningful to the table regarding its architecture or decisions, it was just a great piece of software that I used, and will continue to use.
