- throw-the-towel 1mo agoThat's been long overdue. I really doubt a few days of rain would make anyone in France forget the rest of this summer.
- anonymars 1mo agoI don't know, the last few years have taught me that humans have exceedingly short memories
- Iridescent_ 1mo agoWe'll see whether the heatwaves and drought have been forgotten or not in May...
- fasterik 1mo agoThe article is talking primarily about Eastern Europe. It's also not inconsistent to say that it's raining during a drought. That's why we distinguish between weather and climate.
- boudin 1mo agoIt was a good amount of rain, but most of it just went straight to rivers as soil is really dry (think if try to get a dry sponge wet again, soil behave in a similar way). It helps but if there are no new rain episodes, water tables will stay low, soil dry in depth and most of the country in a complicated situation regarding water.
- youngtaff 1mo agoWe’ve engineered so that rain water goes into rivers and out to sea. Whereas we really need to slow it down so that it permeates the ground
- bamboozled 1mo agoForests
- youngtaff 1mo agoYes, we certainly need to re-wood uplands in the UK, but we also need to make rivers meander, reintroduce marshes and let place live the Somerset levels flood
- troupo 1mo ago"Rain every day" is at best millimeters to tens of millimeters of water (depending on the rain). You need significantly more to properly saturate the earth, especially after a drought.
- gniv 1mo agoYeah they still have restrictions in my area but I don't know how to find out the real situation. I am close to the Seine and I've seen it quite high the other day, but that's probably not a good indication of the general state.

- gniv 1mo agoI said nothing about the drought. My comment was on timing, which affects the optics of those who read it. Imagine going on vacation for 2 months, as they do, then coming back and reading this article while seeing heavy rain outside. With all the fake news you can see how some folks would be skeptical.
