I came across DBYTE, a small programming language
I recently came across DBYTE, a small programming language that is still in its early stages.
It appears to have started as a personal project for exploring compilers, runtimes, ownership, and native targets. The language is still a work in progress, but there is a website with some documentation and background information.
What caught my attention is the longer-term goal of using DBYTE to build an operating system in the language itself. That is still a long way off, but it seems like an interesting project to follow.
The source repository is currently unavailable, so I’m linking only the project website for now.
I’m curious what people here think about the project and its direction.

- gus_massa 2mo agoThe link to github is dead. Are you the author? People here is friendlier when the author is in the comment section replying questions. I don't like to be that guy, but I really dislike how the code is shown. White on black is fine. Black on white is fine. Bue over magenta is fine. Blue over white strips on a black background is impossible to read. From one example: > .Ok(40 as u32) Why u32? Why not just assume a good default for the value and let the compiler fix the details?
- lexsandra56 2mo agoWhat are you talking about?
- gus_massa 2mo agoIn https://dbytelang.site/docs/12.0/language/result/ https://dbytelang.site/docs/12.0/language/result/ see the screenshot https://imgur.com/a/3tdcQz8 https://imgur.com/a/3tdcQz8 1) It's very hard to read it. 2) An explicit size for every integer is annoying.
- lexsandra56 2mo agoI still don't know who wrote it.
- gus_massa 2mo agoIt's totally fine.
