I was always more of an MSN Messenger guy. But the Open OSCAR Server project is a fantastic labor of love stewarded by a kind soul.
They put up with (if not were outright amused at) me digging up the weirdest 3rd party clients I could [1] and just kicking them around against the server software to find bugs [2]

- trueno 1mo agoi threw the oscar server up on a container at work last year and sent my friends the clients. absolute trip hearing that open door sound again lmao. good times. we all just warned each other for the rest of the day. somehow that experience eclipsed microsoft teams. i suppose thats unsurprising
- Avamander 1mo agoOh how I wish modern chat platforms would let me use a client of my own choosing. It's all so locked down and usually garbage-tier because the user has no choice.
- krautsauer 1mo agoMatrix has lots of choice. Garbage choice. :/
- CursedSilicon 1mo agoNow that's not fair. Matrix gives you plenty of options to be flooded with CSAM or have all your chats become inexplicably unable to ever be decrypted again The future is now!
- Y_Y 1mo agoThe hacked MSN client from mess.be was amazing. You could spam the "nudge" that made your friend's client take focus and shake and make a noise!
