Oh so you're saying the biological imperative that underlies all human function, upon which all other emergent functions have sprung from, isn't actually the correct way to characterize human capability and is over-reductive..and strange?
Agreed.
Now just take that one extra logical step please
- tavavex 1mo agoYou picked a really bad analogy is what I'm saying. We're not debating imperatives, we're talking about ways of interacting with the world. From what I can see, humans have more ways to interact with the world around them than by giving birth. LLMs literally by their design output the next token, it is their only purpose and function as an algorithm. Of course it's more nuanced than that if you really want to get deep into LLM design, but denying that LLMs are ultimately a token predictor is like denying that cars are ultimately people/thing transporters because they're complex and have countless side features not related to transporting things.
- jatora 1mo agoYoure just arguing against your own point now. My analogy is a fine reproduction of the failure of the 'just a token predictor' argument. To predict the next token requires many other interesting things to also be understood and modelled internally. Same for baby production in humans.
