I see a lot of comments in this thread in support this stance, as if that is something good for Americans, and say it is not a political statement.
One thing that changed my viewpoint was this book. Deaths of Despair and the Future of Capitalism by Anne Case, and Angus Deaton.
In it, they make a point that, almost all US economists agree that immigration, both legal and Illegal Immigration, is not the cause for American working middle class failure. It is lack of education, and capitalistic system wherein rich steal the money from the poor, which is like a reverse robinhood.
Hacker news crowd can easily verify this by spot-checking. But still we fail for the false narrative and divisive exploits of immigration topic, which is certainly not aimed to solve the problem of American well-being at hand. Truth to be hold, politicians know this too.

- fedeb95 1mo agothe point is that almost nobody will read the book just to verify an internet comment. If you can provide some resources cited in the book it would be better... but this reasoning can be applied to 99% of comments here. At least you provided a book.
- yipinwong 1mo agoty both. Fair points by both you and orsenthil. I will do research on those books, and they are more easily accessible.
- y-curious 1mo agoDo walk us through the spot checking path. Class warfare is hard to see, seeing your job go to a lower-paid foreign worker is not
- ModernMech 1mo agoFor anyone here who supports this, just go back into their post history and see what they said about DOGE and whether they thought that was also a good and prudent idea.
- abraxas 1mo agoYes, propaganda is increasingly not about what you say on a topic but what topics are being talked about. Decades of loose policy around financial regulation and ZIRP made living unaffordable for most western citizens but politicians rediscovered the eternal scapegoat in the shape of immigrants. This way they don't have to answer for their failures. They just made one up. It's tragic how gullible the public is. This scam worked in Britain, USA and is likely going to work in Germany, Poland etc if the polls are to be believed.
- buellerbueller 1mo ago>Hacker news crowd can easily verify this by spot-checking. a significant proportion of the HN crowd DGAF because they see themselves as current/future founders whose goal is ultimately to scale/enshittify/retire early, which typically requires the reverse robinhooding.
- swat535 1mo ago> I see a lot of comments in this thread in support this stance Do you think that they supporting it because they think Americans should have a say in their policies via a democratic process or that anyone in support of this has fallen for a "false narrative"?
- orsenthil 1mo agoWithout question, Americans should have a say their democratic process and bring change when needed. They should never fall for the false narrative used to trick them.
