> 90% of new jobs since 2020 went to people not born in America. That's a passive-aggressive invasion. Do you have a source for this claim?

- tzs 2mo agoThe LLM on Google search says that too. It cites this (plus a couple things that cite that): https://cis.org/Camarota/New-January-Data-Still-Shows-Most-Job-Growth-Going-Immigrants-88-2020-72-last-year https://cis.org/Camarota/New-January-Data-Still-Shows-Most-J... That cites this: https://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm https://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm They do note that the share of working-age men not in the labor force is near a historic high for this kind of economy. That probably suggests not reading too much into this before figuring out if the reason so many foreign born people have been hired is because so many native born people have dropped out of the labor pool.
- jayGlow 2mo agoI looked it up there are a few articles. https://cis.org/Camarota/New-January-Data-Still-Shows-Most-Job-Growth-Going-Immigrants-88-2020-72-last-year https://cis.org/Camarota/New-January-Data-Still-Shows-Most-J... https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2025/feb/7/immigrants-took-nearly-90-new-jobs-since-2020/ https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2025/feb/7/immigrants-t... https://guestworkervisas.com/bls-a7-analysis.html https://guestworkervisas.com/bls-a7-analysis.html
- ericmay 2mo agoThank you (and thanks to tzs) - was genuinely curious and wanted to read about it.
- jayGlow 2mo agoNo problem it's a pretty interesting statistic one of the articles explains how it might be misleading but it doesn't dispute the numbers.
- ericmay 2mo agoYes I found that article (despite the white text at the top) to also be interesting! Thanks again to both of you.
- unselect5917 2mo agoI was wondering why you thanked two people who provided secondary sources (very courteous of you), but not me when I'm who you asked and I provided the source immediately. So I opened the reply in a private window and realized the reply I gave with nothing but exactly what you asked for is [dead], but that fact is hidden from me while logged in: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49454527 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49454527 This site is worse than reddit in all of the worst ways.
- ericmay 2mo agoSorry to see that - I would have said thank you to you as well had I been able to see your comment. Thanks for trying anyway
- unselect5917 2mo agoYeah, you seem like a stand-up dude, that's why I was so curious. >Thanks for trying anyway Same to you!
- weakfish 2mo agoCIS is an anti immigration think tank and Washington times is pretty blatantly conservative outlet. I’d be wary of those sources.
- ericmay 2mo agoSure but don’t they quote BLS data? Or do you believe their interpretation of the data is incorrect?
- weakfish 2mo agoI haven't had time to inspect it myself, but off the top of my head, I'd be wary of taking their interpretation at face value.
- jayGlow 2mo agoAre there any sources that you consider more reliable that have analyzed this data? Those were the first 3 articles that came up when I searched the story.
