nVidia has provided feature parity for their GPUs between Windows and Linux for longer than even fglrx was a thing. Just because they don't give you all their source on command doesn't mean they weren't supporting Linux for decades. They were the only GPU that even worked halfway on Linux (and BSD) for a long time.
