- alephnerd 2mo agoYeah. There's nothing wrong with 1-indexing, but it's interesting to notice it go from being the norm to being something only a handful of us do now. There used to be a time when some HNers used to kvetch over not using 0-indexing and that kind of pedantry should have been cracked down.
- runarberg 2mo agoWell some of use were using R (or later Julia) and have always 1-indexed as an act of defiance... There are dozens of us... DOZENS!
- alephnerd 2mo agoPour one out for the poor saps in econometrics departments and logistics industries still using SPSS.
- calvinmorrison 2mo agodozens of us PVX programmers as well. 1- index gang
- leephillips 2mo ago...and some of us Fortran.
- alephnerd 2mo agoBut Fortran goes skrt skrt (Gen Z/Zillenial for fast). Honestly love Fortran as a language but really worried about how it's both the foundation of most core packages like Numpy and Scipy and is increasingly underresourced outside of physics departments.
