- ColinWright 1mo agoI first saw the announcement here: https://people.com/dolly-parton-dead-7565853 https://people.com/dolly-parton-dead-7565853 I submitted that, but it was DOA. I suspect the domain is on the HN block-list.
- phtrivier 1mo agoI must be missing some context : why is this news considered worthy of HN ? Is there an inside joke with dolly parton and tech ? (The loss is sad, don't get me wrong, but it's the second submission I see..)
- willaaam 1mo agoI guess it's not only AI that hints at the end of working 9 to 5...
- vessenes 1mo agoShe was a founder, influential and one of the most liked people in the world. Seems fine to me.
- phtrivier 1mo agoOk, I learned something. I mean, her name ringed a bell, but it does not seem like her popularity crossed the Atlantic (not as much as other artist, I mean.) Again, I have nothing against her, but I was surprised.
- mcphage 1mo agoShe’s one of the few people in the US who was loved across the political spectrum.
- Sabinus 1mo agoFor some weird reason HN really likes to talk about US celebrities after they die. Hulk Hogan got a big discussion thread too. Also idk why your polite question has been downvoted.
- phtrivier 1mo agoYeah, but at least I could "get" the Hogan discussion on HN, because of the Peter Thiel connection. But I also understand how the comment might have rubbed many people the wrong way, given how she seems to be one of the last few "generally" liked people in the USA.
