I am from the wrong continent to be inculcated in country music from an early age, but I read books distributed from her program every week to the niece. So that's probably her more durable contribution to society, I think.
- autoexec 1mo agoSomething tells me that the songs and films will outlast the books program, but hopefully it's making a difference in the lives of kids. There's no telling how far reaching that can end up being.
- cheeze 1mo agoOn the flipside, how many individual lives have been changed by the books provided to families for free? Impossible to quantify but I'd argue extremely important.

- buellerbueller 1mo agoRidiculous, because EA says the ends justify the means, whereas Ms. Parton demonstrated the importance of the ends and the means. The public will not mourn any EA the way that Dolly is being mourned. It is your silly assertion that is what is entirely fucked up about techbros and politics today.
- jrflowers 1mo agoLmao “You like nice things happening. You must be a fan of my weird techbro scam cult, that invented doing nice things”
- malfist 1mo agoThere's nothing techbros culture can't reinvint, claim as their own, and charge a subscription for it
