I'm unconvinced that parents stopped letting their kids outside because of fear that their kids would get hit by cars. We'd already been successfully teaching children how to safely cross for ages. For trips back and forth to schools, the schools provided crossing guards to help little ones. It's not as if we see tons of children playing outside on their own blocks or even in their own backyards
