- Noaidi 2mo agoI live in a minivan and drive around the United States every year. I started noticing it two years ago, but last year was really difficult for me to go to the usual places I went. I’m up in the Pacific Northwest right now and I’m not even planning where I’m gonna go this year because I’m definitely gonna just be following the weather. One thing I will definitely not be doing is staying around the Palm Springs area, which I usually do because of the risk for earthquakes if the heavy rain flow into the Salton sea.
- johnnyApplePRNG 2mo agoThat's crazy! Are you enjoying the van life? Always dreamed of doing it myself.
- Noaidi 2mo agoIt was forced on me, so I have to enjoy it (Homeless, the rent is too damn high). Just hard to do when you live off of disability with a serious mental illness. Also, my van is a 2001 dodge grand caravan so don't get too excited. :)

Heavy precipitation would have negligible impact on earthquake hazard. Interestingly, Palm Springs area has considerably higher earthquake risk than most of the US because it sits near 4 major active faults: San Andreas, San Jacinto, Banning, and Garnet Hill.
- contingencies 2mo agoIn Sydney it has been raining almost non stop for a year. Really odd. Garden loves it, I'm planting non-endemic native (primarily tropical) species from further north along the coast. I expect a snap-back to extreme drought during this or the subsequent summer. But come further warming, we'll have a jungle.
- BLKNSLVR 2mo agoI get the feeling the coming summer is going to be brutal. On one hand, heat + humidity will literally kill some vulnerable people. One the other hand, heat + extreme dryness will literally kill people via wildfires. Before summer comes around I need to clear various dry leaves and branches and general fire-fuel garden waste from around my house and yard. Somehow, my house doesn't have a water tank, and that makes me feel vulnerable, and it's only recently that I've felt that as a potential threat, mental note: water tank + pump near the top of the to-do/buy list.
- contingencies 2mo agoWhere are you based now? Long time between drinks. I think 2600 is still running. Pop in at the next one? https://www.meetup.com/en-au/sydney-2600/events/316056334/ https://www.meetup.com/en-au/sydney-2600/events/316056334/
- BLKNSLVR 2mo agoSA (still). Not sure if I am who you think I am... Wermspowke?
- ColdStream 2mo agoYeah, in Melbourne here. It feels like Winter never really got going. Yeah, there is some rain and there have been a hand full of cold mornings at best. I do wonder how this summer is going to go, it is going to hit right at the peak of El Nino and they are anticipating some very dry conditions.
