None of them, at least the one's I've encountered in my 20 something years, have had the idea of "everyone has to know everything about all tools", although they've certainly been annoying in other ways.
- hombre_fatal 2mo agoThere's some hyperbole but his point is obvious to me from hanging out in forums and IRC channels over the years, or reading snarky "umm, I'm confused...?" quote-tweets for certain Omarchy posts about how Omarchy is just quickshell hyprland rice. I used to use an old omakase version of Debian called Crunchbang in uni (https://crunchbang.org/ https://crunchbang.org/) and there was always someone around to make the remark that you'd only use it if you couldn't read manpages. Or Dropbox seems pointless because you can build it trivially by mounting an ftp location with curlftpfs + svn.
- mtrovo 2mo agoThis is so true and one of the reasons why I think the "Linux Desktop" will always fail as long as it's marketed as "Linux Desktop". There's a clear market for "good enough" Linux boxes for coders and casual Chromebook-style usage (Steam Machine style) that's constantly bullied by the "you should read the manpage before posting" crowd.
