That being said, there’s usually a reason they were abandoned by the pharmaceutical industry; they were ineffective or had a worse side effect profile compared to other drugs already in the pipeline. Good example of this is the “Barbie drug” melanotan II which was abandoned in favor of bremelanotide for treating hypoactive sexual desire because the latter targeted fewer receptors and was less likely to cause hyperpigmentation and other side effects. Ultimately, most people should probably just stick to pharmaceuticals that have been FDA approved.
