As a society we actually generate a lots of books. Future generations wouldn’t be missing too much without the internet I think. Also, not everything is worth preserving. Easily 90% of Reddit is complete garbage
- sixtyj 2mo agoSure 90% of internet is foam of days.
- inigyou 2mo agoThat was in 2018. I'd upgrade it now to 99.99%.
- Anamon 2mo agoThat may be true for the relative amount, but it doesn't negate the assumption that since at least around the turn of the millennium, a lot of our knowledge, culture, and communication happened purely digitally and is at severe risk of being lost. The thought that nobody apart from one person considered it worthwhile to archive the public web (or at least did something about it) still seems crazy to me. Also, keep in mind that humans are historically very bad at predicting what of their times might be of interest to future generations. As a representation of the times, even some slop content has its place.
