- florkbork 2mo agoWho knows. Could just burn down the ballroom this time and would anyone be too mad?
- ben_w 2mo agoWouldn't they need to build the ballroom first, before burning it down?
- madaxe_again 2mo agoNo need - it’s already a toxic garbage fire.
- ben_w 2mo agoIt's a metaphorical toxic garbage fire, but unless I've missed some news the current state is somewhat different from the "actually set fire to it" historical events referenced earlier: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:The_President%27s_House_by_George_Munger%2C_1814-1815_-_Crop.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:The_President%27s_House_b...
- bamboozled 2mo ago“If your opponent is of choleric temper, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant.” — Sun Tzu, The Art of War Let’s be honest, everyone who tried appeasement is in a much worse position with the man child.
- thaumasiotes 2mo agoThere does seem to be a strain of Trump respecting people for standing up to him.
- inference-god 2mo agoI guess that's the thing with draft dodging, cowardly sex predators. If the going gets tough, they find an easier victim. Look how well Iran has done standing up to him, he has literally been fucking owned by Iran and really done nothing of substance in response. One of the worlds more infamous, low IQ, low T, sleep on the job, corrupt, DEI hires ever, the irony is wonderful ;)
- bell-cot 2mo agoSun Tzu's advice is good - in 1-vs-1 hot wars with limited stakes. That is not Canada's current situation, let alone its desired situation. And diplomacy has many options between appeasement and provocation.
- 1attice 2mo agoYou are ignorant of the context. Read about the last-minute changes to the US position: they contained several requests that, for internal reasons, Canada can't grant without weakening our federation. Specifically, abandoning French language protections. Remember, we're a fissiparous country already; this US proposal was bait for Carney to alienate half his constituency. Carney was placed in a constructed temptation and successfully passed the marshmallow test. Americans, eff off, eh?
